New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is in Los Angeles for a Juneteenth celebration dedicating a stretch of a city street as the "New Orleans Corridor." The headline music act for the event is trumpeter Irvin Mayfield, who was convicted of stealing more than a million dollars from the city of New Orleans' library fund.

But Cantrell has a history of giving Mayfield praise, despite his admission that he stole around $1.3 million from city's public library foundation.
In November 2020, Mayfield pleaded guilty to mail fraud and wire fraud charges involving the theft.
In March 2021, Cantrell introduced Mayfield at a concert and asked attendees to "continue to support a true son of the city of New Orleans, Irvin Mayfield."
