A 65-year-old woman faces murder charges this morning after allegedly stabbing her husband to death.

"The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that occurred last night," Sergeant Brandon Veal said in an email. "During the incident, a man was killed and Carmella Motley, 65, of Metairie, was arrested."

He says it happened around 10:00pm while the couple was driving on the Westbank.

"Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle crash in the 6000 block of Live Oak Blvd. Upon arrival, they located an unresponsive man lying in a ditch near a vehicle. The victim was suffering from multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies also located Motley at the scene, who advised that she was the wife of the decedent."

Veal says detectives got an arrest warrant for Motley for second-degree murder.

"The investigation revealed that an altercation occurred between Motley and the decedent inside the vehicle prior to his death."
