Cops arrest suspect hours after NOLA East homicide

New Orleans Police made a quick arrest in a Friday night homicide in New Orleans East.

Around 11 p.m., New Orleans EMS found a man down in the 7000 block of Bullard Ave. The victim was unresponsive, with facial trauma apparent. Paramedics took the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.


Detectives quickly got to work, and soon a photograph of the suspect was circulating within the NOPD. Officers soon had an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Desmond Douglas.

"A Seventh District officer, Donald Sharpe, was on patrol and located Douglas after identifying him through the photo," said police in a statement.

Police booked Douglas into Orleans Parish Prison around 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon.

The coroner's office will determine the exact cause of death and notify next-of-kin before releasing the victim's name.
