A daylight shooting just outside the main branch of the New Orleans Public Library lands a 23-year-old woman in jail, and sends a 26-year-old man to the hospital.
New Orleans Police say it happened around 5 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Loyola Ave. Detectives say Kia Simmons and the victim got into a brawl and at one point, the victim threw a rock at Simmons. Investigators say that's when Simmons drew a gun and fired, hitting the man several times.
WWL-TV reports witnesses say the woman appeared to be dressed in a security guard's uniform. Video of the incident recorded at least 11 gunshots.
Police arrested Simmons, who faces charges of attempted second degree murder, illegal discharge of a weapon, and simple battery.
