Cops: Children wooed to rapist's home on social media

Police in Terrebonne Parish say two girls between the ages of 12 and 15 were raped after a 19-year-old suspect convinced them on social media to come to his house.

"Tyris Jawaun Williams, 19, of Houma, was arrested for Third Degree Rape, Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile, and Sexual Battery in connection with the investigation," Lt. Blake A. Tabor said in a news release. "SVU Detectives learned that the abuse occurred during the nighttime hours of June 4th and both victims identified the same perpetrator, Tyris J. Williams."

He says three females met Williams on a social media site and went to his home.

Detectives say all three had sex with Williams, but the two youngest are not of the age of legal consent.

"SVU Detectives spoke with the victims, who confirmed that Williams committed sexually motivated abuse upon each of them within the residence, at separate times throughout the night."

Tabor says this should be a wake up call for parents to monitor what their kids do on social media and talk to them about safe behavior on the internet.

"Not only is it disturbing, but it's extremely scary from a parent perspective," he told WWL First News. "We're making a strong push in our community to make sure parents and juveniles alike are educated on the types of victimization that is out there."

Williams jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on a $150,000 bond.
