Cops looking for armed robber after stick up at Subway in Ormond

Police say someone held up the Subway restaurant on Ormond Blvd. Sunday.

"Just after 9:30 AM, deputies with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of an armed robbery... at 1955 Ormond Boulevard in Destrehan, LA," Public Information Officer Amanda Pertuis said in a news release. "The victim, a female employee, stated she was preparing to open the store. When she unlocked the front door to the business, a male entered the store and showed her a handgun."

The worker says the robber threatened her and demanded cash.

"He took money from the cash register, a coin box, and the victim’s cell phone. The victim saw the male leave the store and throw her cell phone in the parking lot. He entered a white van with a Comfort Inn logo and left the parking lot."

Detectives say the white van had been stolen hours earlier from the Comfort Inn in St. Rose.

"Video evidence obtained from the store shows a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, white tennis shoes, and a black mask entering the store. He immediately walked behind the counter and pointed a silver handgun at the victim. He then walked to the register and took all the money along with a green pouch that was located on a shelf under the register."

Pertuis say the video also shows the suspect taking the victim’s cell phone off the counter and exiting the store.

"The van was found abandoned just after 11:00 AM in the wooded area at the back of Fourth Street in St. Rose."

The sheriff's office urges anyone with any information, home surveillance or Ring camera systems to review their video footage and to contact Detective Garrett Haun with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office at ghaun@stcharlessheriff.org, (985) 783-6807, or (985) 783-1135.
