Police want to find the driver of a pickup truck they say caused a fatal crash Monday morning in St. Bernard Parish.
"Around 3:15 am, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a hit-and-run crash involving a motorcyclist on LA 46 (St. Bernard Highway) at Riverbend Drive in St. Bernard Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 26-year-old Kyle St. Angelo of Saint Bernard," Trooper Jacob Pucheu said in a news release.
He says it appears the driver of the pickup turned in front of the motorcyclist.
"The preliminary investigation revealed that St. Angelo was driving a 2004 Suzuki DRZ 400 motorcycle north on St. Bernard Highway, approaching Riverbend Drive. At the same time, a pickup truck was traveling south on St. Bernard Highway and turned left onto Riverbend Drive, into the path of the Suzuki. As a result, the Suzuki struck the passenger side of the pickup truck."
Pucheu says St. Angelo flew off the bike and died on the scene, despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet.
"After the crash, the driver of the pickup did not stop or contact law enforcement and fled the scene."
Investigators say they have determined some information about the truck involved.
"Through investigative resources, Troopers determined the suspect pickup truck is a newer model, light-colored crew cab Ram pickup truck, possibly white. The Ram should have damage to the passenger side, near the front passenger door. As troopers are working to gather all possible information regarding the investigation, anyone with information on this crash is encouraged to contact Troop B at (504) 471-2775.
