Northshore authorities say a domestic violence call turned to murder Friday night, and police killed the murder suspect.

It started when Mandeville PD was called to the 700 block of Heavens Drive.

"Upon arrival, the officer heard a woman screaming inside," St. Tammany Sheriff's Lieutenant Suzanne Carboni said in a news release. "The female quickly exited the residence, alerting the officer that a male inside was threatening to kill her."

She says the man then made good on his threats,

"Seconds later, the male emerged, armed with a gun, and shot the female multiple times."

Carboni, says the lone officer on the scene tried to get the man to surrender.

"The Mandeville officer verbally engaged with the male, asking him numerous times to drop his weapon, while taking cover and awaiting backup.  The officer attempted non-lethal force by tasing the male, who then pointed the gun at the officer."

She says by then, backup had arrived.

"At this time, a second responding officer fired upon the man."

Carboni says both the male suspect and the female victim died. The St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office has identified the woman as Laina Lee, 48, and the man as David Vang, 46. Autopsies on their bodies will be conducted on Tuesday.

says no law enforcement personnel were injured.

“This is an example of the dangers members of law enforcement face every day when they put on their uniform,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “Thankfully all of the officers came home safe last night, but it could very easily end very differently. My prayers go out to the families affected by this tragic incident.”
