Louisiana State Police say a trooper fired his gun at a suspect in New Orleans East Saturday night.
"At approximately 9:30 p.m., Troopers conducting proactive patrols in the New Orleans East area received a complaint of reckless driving," Trooper Ross Brennan said. "Upon responding to the area, Troopers observed a suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 (Chef Menteur Highway) and Downman Road."
He says as Troopers approached the vehicle on foot, the driver attempted to flee the scene.
Ross wrote in a news release that the suspect "accelerated in the direction of the Troopers."
That's when one trooper shot at the vehicle.
"After fleeing the scene, the suspect vehicle was stopped and the driver was taken into custody without further incident. There were no injuries to the suspect or the responding Troopers during the incident."
Detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Force Investigation Unit were called to investigate.
"The investigation remains active and ongoing."
The city council recently passed tougher laws against reckless driving and performing vehicle stunts like donuts and burnouts after a series of high profile events where crowds gathered to watch such stunts.
