NOT THE SMEARER: Covington Police issue apology for sharing photos of alleged farmer's market feces-smearer

"Earlier today, the Covington Police Department posted images of a subject in connection with an incident that occurred at the Covington Farmers Market on Saturday, April 4, 2026."

The incident in question pertains to someone who allegedly smeared feces on public restroom walls at the farmers' market a few days prior. The police account shared multiple images of a man in a restroom stall, including one of him smelling his hands.

"After further review of available video evidence by the Criminal Investigations Division, we have confirmed that the individual pictured in our earlier post is NOT the person responsible for this incident. He has been fully cleared of any involvement," Covington PD went on to say.

Authorities request that all individuals and media outlets who may have shared the original post immediately delete it.

"We are removing the original post and issuing this correction as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize to the individual pictured for any hardship, embarrassment, or concern this has caused him, his family, and anyone connected to him."

Covington Police say the investigation remains active.

"We will share updated information when appropriate. We appreciate the community’s understanding and continued support."
