While the power slowly returns to Southeast Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Ida, many people are also in the dark when it comes to internet service.
Cox Communications says they are crews are making progress in restoring internet and television service to areas hit hard by Hurricane Ida.
As of this Tuesday afternoon, the cable company says 90% of customers are reconnected to services in the Greater Baton Rouge area. They expect to restore services to most of the remaining customers in the area by the end of the week.
In the Greater New Orleans area, services is restored to approximately 50% of our customers with the majority of customers back online by the end of the week.
Lafitte in Jefferson Parish and Destrehan and Luling in St. Charles Parish are just a few of the harder hit areas identified by Cox crews during our assessment process.
“I’m happy to report our crews did gain access and entry to Lafitte yesterday and continue to assess damage there,” said Cox Communications representative Sharon Truxillo speaking at a Jefferson Parish press conference. “So far, we’ve identified 73 miles of damage in New Orleans metro area, and about 35 miles of that in Jefferson. This may increase once we inspect the Lafitte area.”
Truxillo says they are working closely with Entergy in a coordinated effort to restore services.
Truxillo gave a few tips customers can do to help the recovery. As power is restored, she suggests Cox customers reboot their cable modem by unplugging it for ten seconds then plugging it back in to reestablish a connection to Cox services.
“We are dedicating all of our resources to restoring services quickly and efficiently, with the safety of our customers and employees in mind,” said Anthony Pope, senior vice president and region manager of the Cox Southeast Region. “We are extremely pleased with the progress of our restoration to date and continue to thank our customers for their patience.”
