With only six days until the end of 2023, Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng checked in with Tommy Tucker to talk about what she's predicting for the Parish in the New Year.

President Lee Sheng says she has one simple wish for the start of 2024.

“I’d like for things to calm down; not as many crises.”

However, she does acknowledge that the challenges of the last couple of years have helped parish leadership craft creative solutions.

“For instance, we talked about how ugly open canals are and came up with the simple solution of tree planting.”

Her time in office has had its challenges from COVID to salt-water intrusion, yet, she has remained confident as Parish leader.

“What I love about my job is trying to make government more efficient across the board.”

And, while she commends the work she and Parish leadership have been able to do, she has plans to take the parish further.

“We are going to continue to make improvements throughout our departments.”

Several changes are in store for Jefferson Parish in 2024 including new companies for garbage and recycling removal after contract expirations at the end of the year. She says all-in-all she's committed to the parish and its residents.

“We’ve done a lot but I’m glad to get four more years to try to do even more.”

Staying focused on her current role and tasks at hand, when asked about what’s next after her time as Parish President, Lee Sheng says, “I don’t know, but life will unfold itself to me.”
