A 39-year-old man is dead after he drowned in the Bayou Des Allemands while swimming in the body of water.
According to a St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson, the man was fishing with his children on the Old Spanish Trail Bridge on Sunday afternoon when he jumped into the water. Deputies say the man went underwater while swimming and never resurfaced.
Divers found the man's body around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, nearly six hours after he went under the water.
The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
