The National Weather Service issued an Extreme Cold Warning across the southeastern portion of Louisiana.
Forecasters advise it will be dangerously cold with "dangerously cold wind chills."
The NWS office for New Orleans says, "Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes."
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS ADVISED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE:
-Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.
-To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly.
-Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Officials say there will also be widespread frost.
The warning lasts until 10:00am on Sunday.
