Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office Sgt. Greg Malveaux has been cleared in a complaint that he was stalking New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, the Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports.

This cleared Sgt. Malveaux to return to his previous duty as New Orleans City Councilmember Helena Moreno's security officer.

Moreno, a frequent critic of Mayor Cantrell, called the complaint political retaliation by the mayor.

"This is political retaliation on the council—me serving as the council president," Moreno told WWL's Newell Normand last week. "There’s not anything she can do to my city staff, but she obviously can have an impact on staff that is not directly over me because my deputy works for the Sheriff’s Office."
