If you are living in Jefferson Parish, you may have noticed more cars being pulled over, but it isn't because more officers are on the road.
Technology is assisting JPSO for a more efficient way to ticket; cutting the total time of a traffic stop down, allowing officers to make more stops.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says a new machine can print out a ticket in mere seconds allowing officers to initiate more stops.
“The main complaint we get is about traffic enforcement and we have to use our resources for other calls. We got a bunch of new ticket machines and have issued more tickets in the last two weeks.”
This is just one way technology helps out the department.
Lopinto says that his officers are finding more time to move to other calls.
“Instead of an officer spending ten minutes on a call, they scan the license, the ticket prints and goes to the court docket, and they are on to the next call.”
