Normally, Louisiana starts the early voting week on a Saturday. But this early voting week has a holiday in it.
"The reason it's starting on a Friday is because of on June 19th, it's a state and federal holiday for Juneteenth," said Trey Willieams with the Louisiana Secretary of State's office. "To make sure we have seven days of early voting, it will start on Friday.".
So early voting takes place Friday and Saturday, takes Sunday June 14 off, then is held Monday through Thursday, has Friday June 19 off, and finishes on Saturday, June 20.
Williams says thse are closed party primaries, so voters registerd "no party" who voted last month will have to stick with whatever party they declared in May.
"For example if you voted as a 'no-party' and you voted in either the Republican or the Democratic primaries back in May, then you will need to vote in those closed primaries this go-around," said Williams.
And if a voter registered as "no party" did not vote last month but wants to vote this month, they can, but they still must declare which party primary they wish to vote in.
The ballot includes runoffs in the US Senate party primaries, a BESE runoff, a Public Service Commission runoff and some local elections.
