Prosecutors Thursday announced that a St. Tammany Parish grand jury indicted Arthur James White for 1st Degree Rape of a victim over 65.
The 45-year-old suspect allegedly sexually assaulted the wheelchair bound victim in the middle of the night.
"This incident occurred On Saturday May 29, 2021 at approximately 0100 hours," St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Captain Lance Vitter said in an email.
It happened at the woman's home in the Mandeville area.
"A 66 year old female, wheelchair bound, allowed Arthur White to stay at her residence," Vitter detailed. "She befriended him at a local gas station where White would assist her with placing gas in her vehicle."
He says it is not clear how long the suspect was staying at the home before the rape.
"White was arrested on the night of the incident being reported and the victim was brought to a local hospital to receive medical treatment."
The grand jury found sufficient evidence to decide that White should stand trial on the charges.
