New Orleans Emergency Medical Services says that a child was rushed to Children's Hospital this week for treatment after an alligator attack at the closed Lincoln Beach.
Few details were available, but the city wanted to remind people to avoid the closed beach area.
“While the City is actively working to redevelop the site for all residents to enjoy, there are a number of safety improvements required before it can be reopened to the public," authorities said in a statement.
"Until we know how we can safely re-introduce Lincoln Beach to New Orleanians, we need residents to steer clear."
EMS did not release the child's condition, age or gender.
The gator attack happened Wednesday when the chid and the child's family were at Lincoln Beach.
In 2020, the city released video of efforts to catch aligators in the flooded underpass leading to the beach.
Lincoln Beach has been closed since 1964.
There have been multiple campaigns to reopen the site, but none have produced significant results.
