If you're a customer of Entergy Louisiana, your rates could go up if the utility company gets its way.

Entergy says it's filed for a 5.6-percent rate increase with the Public Service Commission. According to Entergy, if that rate hike is approved, the average customer would see a bill increase of about $6.75 cents a month. Entergy says that extra money would allow the company to continue making system upgrades and begin incorporating renewable energy sources.

"The (formula rate plan) has allowed Entergy Louisiana, under the oversight of the LPSC, to improve and upgrade its electric system through various distribution, transmission and generation projects; deploy smart devices onto the system to minimize outage impacts; and even begin incorporating renewable power like solar, among other measures," Entergy said in a statement on its website. "Extending the FRP would allow the company to continue performing this critical work, as well as trim trees away from electric equipment and begin accelerating the hardening of its grid against storms."

The request comes as members the Public Service Commission call for an investigation into how Entergy is spending its revenue.
