The Louisiana Public Service Commission approved Entergy's plans to raise customers' bills in order to pay for a "resiliency plan" to harden its power transmission and distribution systems against inclement weather.
"We’re reinforcing our infrastructure to prepare for stronger storms, reduce outages, and respond quicker," the utility said.
It is part of a $1.9 billion plan that will start in 2025.
It will appear as a line item on Entergy bills for five years.
Entergy says the initial increase will be small, barely more than half a dollar on the average ratepayer's bill.
By the end of the five years, the average customer will be paying more than $7 monthly in new charges.
