Since early voting for in Louisiana began last Friday, voter turnout in those four days has exceeded 430,000. Louisiana based pollster and founder of JMC Analytics and Polling, John Couvillon, says the high turnout numbers are encouraging.

“Right now, we are sitting at 431,000 cumulative early voters which is the highest ever for four days of early voting,” said Couvillon.

Only the state’s governor run-off election last year and the presidential election in 2016 have exceeded a turnout of 431,000 voters.

Couvillon says when it comes to the proportions of Republicans to Democrats among those early voters; more democrats are turning out, especially Black democrats.

“The democrats were not firing on all cylinders in 2016 and the early vote in Louisiana after four days was 25 percent Black…it is 32 percent Black as of last night,” said Couvillon.

Couvillon adds nationwide there is about a 20-point lead in states with higher percentage of democratic registered voters, which Couvillon says, could help Democrats on November 3rd. Early voting in Louisiana ends October 27th.
