Fall is here, and AAA says we can expect a fall in gas prices.
There are a couple of reasons for the autumn drop in prices.
"That usually means a slowdown in demand, also when we start changing the type of fuel that we use, the winter-grade gasoline which is cheaper to produce," said AAA fuel prices analyst Don Redman.
So why can't we have this cheaper gas blend year round? Redman said clean air rules allow for an easier-burning, but more-polluting, gas formula when weather gets cold.
"It all has to do with being able to ignite in lower temperature," said Redman, "which is going to make it a little dirtier gasoline."
There are a couple of caveats to this seasonal drop in prices. Redman notes that we are still in hurricane season, and if a storm gets in the Gulf, that will send prices up. Redman also says the Russia-Ukraine war could influence oil prices, too.
