In four weeks, Rex parades down St. Charles Avenue. Unlike the last two times New Orleans hosted the Super Bowl, the game this year isn't interfering with parade season.
Arthur Hardy of the Mardi Gras Guide says this time around, the Super Bowl seems to complement Carnival.
"I think it's helped, of course, security-wise, that, plus the tragedy on Bourbon Street brought a lot more resources to make parades safer than ever," said Hardy. "Let's face it, they've been very safe through the centuries, really, so I think we'll have a safe Mardi Gras, but we've got to get the Super Bowl out of the way, and I'm glad to have them here and wish we had them more often!"
The reviewing stands are going up on St. Charles Avenue as the city prepares for one big event followed by the next.
Fat Tuesday is March 4.
