Traffic was snarled this morning on Westbound I-10 near the Florida Avenue offramp with a multicar crash in lanes.
NOPD says they responded to the crash around 3:45 am with reports of a single car accident. Upon arrival officers found it to be a multicar crash and shut down the lanes of the expressway at Metairie Road.
Further investigation found one woman to be dead, three others injured.
Detectives determined that one of the drivers in the initial crash, an adult female, was outside of her vehicle when she was subsequently struck by an oncoming pickup truck.
The victim was declared deceased on scene. Three additional subjects in this incident were transported via EMS to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
I-10 Westbound was finally reopened in the seven o'clock hour to traffic.
Investigation into the incident is ongoing. No further details are currently available.
