Around one year ago, 72-year-old Linda Frickey was dragged to her death in a carjacking. On the anniversary of her death, Frickey’s family spoke to WWL’s Newell Normand.
“I think the public is fed up not only in New Orleans, all the surrounding parishes, too,” said Kathy Richard, Frickey’s sister-in-law. “It’s just it’s gotten out of hand. These kids are so brazen.”
According to reports, four teenaged suspects – John Honore, 18; Briniyah Baker, 16; Lenyra Theophile, 16 and Mar’Qel Curtis, 15 – carjacked Frickey’s vehicle last year. While the car was moving, Frickey allegedly got tangled in her seatbelt and was dragged until her arm was ripped off her body.
This week, Orleans Parish Criminal District Judge Kimya Holmes made the ruling that Theophile would be unable to participate in her own defense without further mental health care. Holmes came to the decision after hearing testimony from a court-appointed psychiatrist.
Normand noted that Theophile is reportedly depressed due to the horrific incident.
“We are depressed ourselves, as the family,” Frickey’s sister Jinny Griffin told Normand.
Honore, Baker and Curtis are still expected to begin trial next month. All are set to face charges as adults.
