A Covington man is jailed on a murder charge, after a deadly fentanyl overdose.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office deputies arrested 28-year-old James Roberts Jr. on one count of second degree murder Friday morning.

Investigators say he sold drugs to a 38-year-old Bush-area woman who died of a fentanyl overdose last September.

"Fentanyl continues to take lives in our community, and we will continue to investigate these deaths and hold those responsible for distributing this deadly drug accountable," said Sheriff Bret Ibert.

"Cases like this require a tremendous amount of time and detailed investigative work," the sheriff added. "Our Major Crimes detectives worked diligently to trace the fentanyl back to its source and gather the evidence needed to make this arrest. I commend them for staying with this case and continuing to seek accountability for the victim and her family."
