An investigation is underway to determine what caused a Metairie house fire after first responders found an elderly man dead inside.
"In conjunction with multiple fire agencies, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal fire," JPSO Public Information Officer Sergeant Brandon Veal said.
It happened Saturday.
"Fire personnel and members of the JPSO responded to a report of fire at a single-story family home in the 400 block of Elise Ave. Upon arrival, they observed smoke coming from inside the location."
Veal says crews doused the flames.
"After the fire was extinguished, an unresponsive elderly male was located in a hallway inside the residence. The man was suffering from fire-related injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead."
He says the fire originated in the attic.
