Police in New Orleans are investigating a fatal shooting in the St. Claude neighborhood.
An initial police reports say a male victim was shot about 2:40 p.m. on Friday in the 2600 block of St. Claude Avenue.
EMS took the man to the hospital where he later died. Police are now investigating it as a homicide.
"Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available," the NOPD said in a statement released Friday night.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death after an autopsy and notification of family is completed.

This shooting comes as New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson announced Friday evening that a gunman riding in a Pedi-cab ambushed two of his officers.
The officers were shot at the corner of Royal and St. Phillips Streets, just one mile from the shooting on St. Claude earlier that day.
One officer was shot in the cheek bone the other suffered non-life threatening injuries in that incident.
