A father and son exchanged gunshots with each other at a Pines Village diner in New Orleans East.

In the end, two cars were shot up and a front window taken out by bullets.

NOPD doesn't know what started the row that wound up in guns being drawn, but 66-year-old Don Hayes Sr., and his son, 49-year-old Don Hayes Jr. were arrested following the shootout.

It all started around 2pm Tuesday at the Shaytiggs Food and Pastries on Downman Road.  Senior Hayes is the establishment's chef.

"It is alleged that Hayes Jr. was firing from the front door, while Hayes Sr. was firing toward the restaurant," defense attorney Tonell Byrd said Wednesday in Magistrate Court when bail was set.

Bail for both men is set between $20-and-$22,500.

According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate both men were graded on the Public Safety Assessment Tool as Risk Level 4.  A high setting, given that Risk Level 5 is the top of the scale.
