Firefighters responded this morning to a blaze in a double in Treme.
"At 8:02 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a call of dwelling on fire in the 2600 block of Ursulines Ave," Captain Edwin Holmes said in a news release. "Upon arrival firefighters were advised that the resident of the basement unit and his dog had escaped safely and that the three residents of the of the upper unit had escaped but their three small dogs were still inside."
He says crews tried to put out the fire and find the dogs.
"A contingent of NOFD Fire Operations personnel aggressively worked to extinguish the fire, others performed search and rescue efforts to locate the dogs. Unfortunately, all three dogs were found unresponsive. Resuscitation efforts were conducted on all three dogs but were
unsuccessful."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
