The State Fire Marshal is urging people to refrain from grilling or having a bar-b-q over the Labor Day weekend with the extreme wildfire risk across Louisiana.
"Do not use any type of open flame outside," he pleaded. "Think of alternatives. Think of the situations where you may patronize your local businesses, if you are thinking about having a bar-b-q... and tailgate parties."
Daniel Wallis says that includes tailgates.
"Buy prepackaged meals, prepackaged party packs."
The fire marshal stressed that while this is an unusual request, it is justified.
"We are in times that are unprecedented. I've been in this business a very long time, and I've never seen anything like this."
A statewide burn ban is in place with hundreds of wildfires blazing across Louisiana amid record heat and drought.
