It looks like the antiquated power production system the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board relies on to pump out flood water won't be needed with this tropical system.

That's good, since the new power plant is way behind schedule.

After a series of delays, authorities had said the new power substation would be up and running before this hurricane season began, but it is still not ready.

"It looks like that will be on-line and running pumps here in August."

That's what the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board's Steve Nelson told WWL's Tommy Tucker, saying they still have more work to do.

"All of the equipment has been installed.  They are still testing it right now."

The Power plant will eventually replace the century old turbines that have repeated failed.

Nelson says some of the newer turbines will remain as a backup.

An Entergy news release issued in 2022 had said the new substation would be ready more than a year-and-a-half ago.

"The 60-megawatt Sullivan substation at the SWBNO’s Carrollton facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. "
