Interstate Ten near the Orleans/Jefferson line was flooded Monday afternoon.

It is open again, but while the pumps worked to catch up with the intense rainfall, the I-10 was not passable.

Officials say up to six inches of rain fell in about an hour and a half. It left streets across the region flooded.

The heaviest rain was in New Orleans and the Slidell area. The National Weather Service issued Flash Flood Warnings and Flood Advisories.

Underpasses and other areas filled with flood waters, and there are multiple reports of water in cars.

"Numerous street flooding reports came in through the afternoon from New Orleans especially around MidCity and Lakeview," WWL TV Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford reported. "Rain turned lighter during the afternoon which allowed street flooding to ease in spots, but another heavy batch of rain had moved back in before 3pm."

She says some areas got more than half a foot of rain. Slidell had seen some of the worst of it.

"Rain totals were around 5-7 inches at 2:00 p.m. when rain finally started to ease."

Around 1:30pm the City of New Orleans announced, "Heavy rain could cause street flooding in low-lying areas. Neutral ground parking allowed until 8 AM on Tuesday, Sept 5. Please don't block intersections, streetcar tracks, sidewalks, or bike paths."
