Former New Orleans Police interim superintendent Michelle Woodfork says she will run for Orleans Parish Sheriff in this fall's election, WWL-TV reports.
Woodfork made history as the first woman to lead the NOPD when New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell named her interim chief after Sean Ferguson retired.
Likewise, incumbent sheriff Susan Hutson made history as the first woman elected sheriff in New Orleans.
Woodfork's time as interim superintendent was generally met with praise, to the point that some New Orleans City Councilmembers were surprised when the mayor did not nominate her for the post full-time.
After leaving the NOPD in 2023, Woodfork went to work for the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office as its Director of Forensic Intelligence.
