A former priest pleaded guilty to drugging men he met in the French Quarter and sexually assaulting them in his Metairie home, and received a 25-year prison sentence.
The Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office says Stephen Sauer drugged 17 men and drove his unconscious victims to his house in the 4700 block of Purdue Drive in Metairie. There, he took photos of the men in various stages of undress, and molested some of them.
Sauer shared the images online, either posting them to a website or trading them via email, according to investigators.
"Sauer, 61, admitted to targeting men who appeared to be intoxicated, lost or in need of assistance. Then, in offering to help, he drugged the men," the D.A.'s office said in a news release. "In some cases, he put narcotics in their drinks while at bars or, after they passed out from drinking alcohol, he used an eyedropper to feed them the sleep-inducing substances."
Sauer pleaded guilty to nine counts of third-degree rape, 13 counts of sexual battery, 17 counts of video voyeurism and 16 misdemeanor counts of possessing drugs without prescriptions and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Detectives believe Sauer may have as many as 50 other victims.
