A four-year-old boy fighting for his life after police say he was shot on New Year's Day in New Orleans East.
That shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. Thursday on Lawrence Road near Lake Willow Drive.
According to the NOPD's major offense log, the incident began as a domestic dispute between the child's mother and her ex-partner. Investigators say the man went to the woman's home, after which the two began fighting. Police say the woman called her boyfriend for help. According to investigators, the boyfriend fired shots when he arrived at the home, hitting both the woman's ex and her son.
Police say the child was shot in the head. EMS crews took the boy to a hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. The ex-partner drove himself to a hospital. His condition is not known.
So far, police have not made any arrests in the case.
That shooting is one of four that happened in the city of New Orleans on New Year's Day. Two of those other shootings happened in New Orleans East, while the last happened in Algiers. In each of those other cases, the victims drove themselves to hospitals to seek treatment.
