New Orleans police say they have identified a suspected gunman in a Saturday night French Quarter shooting and that they have a warrant for his arrest.
That shooting happened around 9 p.m. Saturday inside a store on Canal Street at Royal Street.
According to investigators, Quintel Morgan, 31, was inside the store when five other men approached him. Investigators say Morgan told them that he heard gunfire as he was walking out of the store and began running. Morgan allegedly added that the five other men chased him after the initial shots were fired. Morgan and a second person each suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital.
Detectives say they later learned that Morgan fired the first shot, which they say led to him being wounded. Authorities are still investigating to find out if anyone else fired shots and who the other men involved in the shooting were.
Morgan remains in the hospital. When he’s released, he will be arrested and booked on aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal discharge of a weapon, and felon in possession of a firearm.
