The French Quarter trash collection saga lands in appellate court today.
While IV Waste continues picking up the trash in the Vieux Carré, the Louisiana 4th Circuit Court of Appeals is set to take up Henry Consulting's case, seeking to force the New Orleans City Council to sign off on the contract it won through the competitive selection process last year.
"They awarded the contract to Richards Disposal as the sub. At the last minute, Richards Disposal was substituted for another company," New Orleans City Councilmember Freddie King explained. "Alvin Richards with Richards Disposal and Henry Consulting were not able to agree on the terms of their business
King says the council was not comfortable with the last-minute substitution and wouldn't sign the contract.
"So you basically had three companies now a part of this contract. It was just getting kind of convoluted," said King. "So the city council said it's just too much, we don't feel comfortable finalizing this contract, and that's when the lawsuit was filed."
Henry Consulting and Richards Disposal say they have since patched up their differences.
