Southeast Louisiana is shifting from warm, humid weather to downright cold conditions.

LSU Health Climatologist Barry Keim says the region will stay “balmy through most of the weekend,” but a sharp temperature drop is coming.

“We’ll see 70s and... 80s Friday and Saturday,” Keim said. “But by Sunday evening, the bottom falls out.”

The chill will deepen early next week, especially north of the lake.

“It’s Tuesday morning when we could see... frost on the Northshore,” he explained. “Temperatures there will likely fall below freezing."

With the winds, it is forecast to feel like 20s and 30s across the entire region.

Keim says residents should keep in mind three of the four Ps, people, pets, and plants. Pipes, he notes, won’t be an issue this time around.

"Bring in pets, cover sensitive plants, and check on anyone vulnerable to the cold,” he advised.

The cold snap won’t linger.

“As the old saying goes, if you don’t like the weather in southern Louisiana, give it a day,” Keim said. “A warm-up will follow right behind this cool down.”
