Gas prices across Louisiana have shot up dramatically over the last few days, with some gas stations raising their prices as much as 50 cents in the last 48 hours. That's because the Iran War sent oil prices skyrocketing.
Will those price hikes continue?
"Probably not," Gas Buddy analyst Patrick DeHaan said. "I think by this weekend, things should start to slow down."
That's because oil prices have begun to come back down, even if only slightly. DeHaan says that will cause the gas price hike to ease.
"The pace of increases will drastically start to decline over the next 36 hours," DeHaan said. "By the weekend, things should be slowing down."
Although the price spike will come to an end, DeHaan says: don't hold your breath for any price decreases at the pump.
"Gas stations adjust their prices based on replacement cost, and some of these stations on Monday around noon were paying a dramatically higher price," DeHaan said. "Prices then go down slower because stations recapture some of the losses they incurred when prices spiked."
