Even as people get out to make up for last year's "lost summer," gas prices have held steady. The question is, for how long?
AAA says fuel producers have managed to build up supply to keep pace with demand, and prices have held steady for about a month
"I think, though, it's just going to be a short term before we start seeing the prices edge upward," said AAA spokesman Don Redman.
Redman says with the nation itching to travel for the 4th of July, that supply will be stressed and prices will turn upward soon.
"I think we could see prices increase in Louisiana by another nickel or so by the time we get through the month of July," he said.
Redman says OPEC members are also cutting back crude oil production, which has helped pushed crude prices above $70 a barrel.
In New Orleans today, the average price for a gallon of 87 octane is $2.686. It was $2.690 yesterday, and $2.687 last week, and only about two pennies a gallon less than it was a month ago.
