New Orleans city councilman Joe Giarrusso is in a transition phase.

In five-and-a-half weeks from now, he'll move out of his council role and into his new job as the city's chief administrative officer. Giarrusso told WWL's Tommy Tucker that it will be an adjustment going from the city's legislative branch to the city's executive branch.

"Well, look, it's a strange position to be in," Giarrusso said, adding that he won't play favorites in his new job. "District A, you will not be getting any special treatment over the next month or so. Don't ask for it."

Although he still represents District A for the time being, Giarrusso says he's working to make the entire city of New Orleans better. Giarrusso said he's been meeting with residents to find out what's going on in their neighborhoods and to find out how the Moreno Administration can improve life in the city.

According to Giarrusso, those conversations have ramped up since Monday when Mayor-elect Helena Moreno announced that Giarrusso would serve as her chief deputy.

"People have ideas," Giarrusso said. "People want to share things. They have really good thoughts about better practices and how things can work better."
