Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry announced Wednesday that an "enhanced security zone" will be established around the first eight blocks of Bourbon Street in New Orleans' French Quarter.

It includes checkpoints set up at each entrance to the French Quarter Enhance Security Zone (FQESZ) where coolers, ice chests, and any destructive or explosive materials will be prohibited.

Additionally, bags, containers, and purses larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches are subject to search upon entry to and while in the FQESZ.

"Super Bowl LIX is the perfect opportunity to showcase New Orleans as the world class city it is," Gov. Landry said. "In order to do this, we must prioritize the safety of every single visitor and resident in the city."

This action comes after Shamsud-din Jabbar crashed a rented pickup truck into a crowd of people celebrating the New Year early in the morning of January 1. Fourteen people died before New Orleans Police fatally shot Jabbar after he crashed the truck and opened fire on officers.
