There’s a celebration happening in downtown Gretna this weekend. Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng says there will be fun for all ages and invites people to bring their whole families along to the America 250 festivities commemorating the 250th birthday of the United States.
Sunday, June 14th, downtown Gretna will be host to sack races, water balloon tosses, volleyball, face painting, crafts, adoptable pets on-site, and even a dunk tank that the Parish President teased she MIGHT just get into herself.
The event begins at noon in downtown Gretna across from the Gretna Welcome Center and will include a classic car show for the gearheads in the area. Sheng also says there will be a parade at 3pm that she emphasizes is not a Mardi-Gras style float parade, but more of a walking parade for spectators to enjoy. There will also be a drone show over the Mississippi River that locals should be able to see from quite a distance.
The America 250 event kicks off at noon at the Gretna Welcome Center and will conclude after the drone show lights up the night sky over the river. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs to enjoy the live entertainment.
