The Hammond Police Department says a Hammond cop is under arrest.
"Agents with the Louisiana Attorney General's Office Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), with the assistance of Hammond Police Department, took a HPD police officer into custody on May 27, 2026," according to a news release.
The officer faces state and federal charges linked to alleged cockfighting and an apparent cover-up.
"Both agencies had warrants for the officer’s arrest stemming from incidents involving alleged cockfighting activities with charges ranging from Misuse of State Computer Systems to Retaliation Against a Witness."
Hammond has suspended the officer.
"The HPD officer has been placed on administrative leave and will proceed through the applicable Civil Service process."
Hammond did not release the officer's name.
"Hammond PD cannot release the name or photos due to it being a Federal Investigation."
They referred all inquiries for further information to Homeland Security Investigations in Gulfport, Mississippi.
