Harassing behavior leads to murder, sheriff says
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office

A Ponchatoula woman is dead and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office says her estranged husband killed her after engaging in a pattern of harassment.

The sheriff's office says 45-year-old Lisa Hernandez was found murdered on March 20. She was found between her bed and dresser, covered in blood.

During the investigation, the sheriff's office says it soon developed Hernandez's estranged husband as a suspect.

According to the sheriff's office, after a year of separation, 49-year-old David Hernandez began stalking his wife.

Detectives said he would show up randomly at her place of employment, sent her flowers to which she was allergic, and even planted a tracking device on her vehicle.

The day Lisa Hernandez was murdered, detectives say Mr. Hernandez staged a burglary at her residence, then dumped items used in the break-in into Lake Pontchartrain.

The sheriff's office says it has recovered those items from the lake.

Deputies arrested Mr. Hernandez April 15 and booked him on a charges of second degree murder and obstruction of justice.
