Heat advisory for your Sunday: Feeling as hot as 112

The National Weather Service says the heat today could reach the danger level.

"A heat advisory is in effect for today," the NWS posted. "If outdoors, please take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water, check on others, and think about your pets."

The heat index could reach up to 112 degrees.

WWL TV Meteorologist Alexa Trischler says only a few stray thunderstorms could bubble up in the afternoon.

"Temperatures will stay in the middle 90s for a big chunk of the afternoon since less rain will be around."

She forecasts more intense heat for Monday and Tuesday before rain comes back.

"By midweek, another surge of moisture will head our way from the east. As the high pressure shifts west a little, this should help scattered showers and storms to form from Wednesday through the upcoming weekend. Some rain could be heavy at times later this week."
