A New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board turbine failed during heavy rain overnight, leading to street flooding in Lakeview, Carrollton, Mid City and Central City, WWL-TV reports.
According to the Sewerage and Water Board, Turbine 4 lost power. Backups have been activated.
Turbine 5 has been inoperative since last month.
"We are experiencing power issues. Crews are working to bring Turbine 4 back online and utilizing frequency changers & 3 EMDs (electro-motive diesel generators). Lakeview, Carrollton, Mid City & Central City are seeing street flooding. Drainage pumping stations 1, 2, 6, 7 & 12 are affected," the Sewerage and Water Board said.
Officials said streets could be cleared by noon if the rain holds off.
The power loss resulted in reduced pumping capacity at Drainage Pumping Stations 1, 2, 6, 7, and 12.
