Mandeville and parts of west St. Tammany Parish are dealing with flooding after pop-up storms dumped several inches of rain Tuesday morning.
About eight inches of rain fell in some areas with an additional three inches possible in areas of Abita Springs, Covington, and Mandeville according to forecasters.
"We mainly have a gravity drainage system," St. Tammany Parish government spokesperson Michael Vinsanau told WWL. "The rain does accumulate rapidly and it takes some time to go down."
Vinsanau says the primary area experiencing the most flooding is the area south of I-12 on Highway 190 in Mandeville. Other subdivisions experiencing heavy flooding include Woodstone, Beau Rivage, and Fontainebleau.

“There are other areas like Highway 59 that have water on the road and in some areas of Covington as well, so it is not isolated to one small neighborhood there are quite a few areas impacted here in St. Tammany parish,” said Vinsanau.
Sandbags are now available for St. Tammany residents.
Self-serve sandbags are available at Koop Drive in Mandeville. Residents are advised to bring their own shovel, in case the ones provided at the sandbag station are in use.
